Could a new law really protect Europe’s soil?

Approximately 60 to 70 per cent of European soils are in poor condition, as a result of agricultural activities. As the FT’s Clive Cookson explains, this has prompted the EU to introduce its first law designed the protect this precious resource. But although the legislation represents a positive step forward, it lacks legally binding targets and will be costly to implement.
