Expanding America’s superhighways of clean energy
With President Biden bidding for a net zero economy by 2050, there is a growing awareness and demand for high-voltage transmission systems to be substantially expanded. Not only will this build resilience in the grid, but it will also allow regions without the natural resources to produce renewable energy on their doorstep to benefit, too. Avangrid’s New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) is a pioneering transborder project to build a 233km transmission line along land owned by Central Maine Power that will deliver 1,200MW of clean hydropower energy from Quebec, Canada, to a grid in Lewiston, Maine, in the US.
